Acne scars can affect confidence long after breakouts settle. At Beauty and Laser Clinic Dee Why Sydney we often discuss fractional CO2 laser and microneedling (Dermapen) – sometimes alone, sometimes in a staged plan.
CO2 Laser and Microneedling for Acne Scars: A Dee Why Guide
Fine needles create controlled micro-channels that stimulate collagen and can improve texture, pores and milder scarring. Redness similar to sunburn is common for a few days. A series of sessions is typical.
See microneedling and collagen induction therapy.
Fractional CO2 laser
CO2 fractional laser is stronger resurfacing. It can help deeper textural scars and uneven surface quality, usually with more downtime than needling. Sun protection afterwards is essential.

Which path is right?
- Mild texture / early scars: microneedling courses often first
- Deeper ice-pick or boxcar scars: laser or combination planning
- Active acne: calm breakouts before aggressive scar work
- Skin type: settings and modality choice matter for pigment risk
Complete scar “erasure” is uncommon. Honest improvement over a course is the realistic goal.
Aftercare mindset
Whichever path you take, SPF, gentle cleansing and following clinic aftercare protect results. Skipping sunscreen can undo progress, especially after laser.
